decorating around an object
My client inherited a painting from the 1950s, along with some ornate furniture. The painting had a feminine palette and this bachelor needed help in pulling it all together.
Sometimes it can be challenging to decorate around an object, especially if it isn’t one that you love. Often I will focus on another item in the room to create a different color palette. In this particular room I selected brown and blue in the pillows instead of accentuating the peach hues in the paining. I created a more transitional feel by adding modern and refined touches. In turn, the painting looks more contemporary and less dowdy.
To give the room texture we added a sisal rug. The custom window treatments are a tone-on-tone Greek key fabric trimmed with a blue silk border to create a more dramatic statement that is elegant and masculine.
The furniture in the room was ornate, and we balanced that with transitional accessories and 2 contemporary lamps from Drexel Heritage.
This was a design dilemma I was happy to solve!
